This a repository of my writings, links and notes. It navigates a series of perspectives and problematics that arise from studying and living the contemporary Mediterranean. Going offshore, it involves encounters with the frequently repressed and refused histories, cultures, lives and archives suspended and sustained in its waters. These push us to plot what Mahmoud Darwish would have called the maps of absence.

Iain Chambers

«Geography is not confined to providing historical form with a substance and variable places. It is not merely physical and human but mental, like the landscape. Geography wrests history from the cult of necessity in order to stress the irreducibility of contingency. It wrests it from the cult of origins in order to affirm the power of a “milieu” (what philosophy finds in the Greeks, said Nietzsche, is not an origin but a milieu, an ambiance, an ambient atmosphere: the philosopher ceases to be a comet). It wrests it from structures in order to trace the lines of flight that pass through the Greek world across the Mediterranean.»

Gilles Deleuze & Félix Guattari, What Is Philosophy?
